"If it means I can save this planet, I'll do anything. Even if it means giving up my... life."
—Fuhito

There is a fine line separating the visionary and the monstrous, the freedom fighter and the terrorist. It's possible to stumble over it accidentally, but there are those to whom this line has no meaning. Fuhito is a man of science with a mind for strategy. In life, he was possessed of an ultimate goal of unimaginable significance and a complete disregard for anything or any one that might interfere with his reaching it. The Planet was in pain. With each passing year, she sickened, dying. Having arrived at and tested his conclusion, Fuhito was willing sacrifice every human life on her surface, including his own, to free her of the cause of her pain. A noble goal, towards which he worked tirelessly, and by any means necessary.

Once a pupil of Bugenhagen's, the theories he formulated on his own took him as far from his background, and in the end, his very humanity, as it was possible to travel. As the tactical, strategic and scientific force behind AVALANCHE, he appeared to work towards the goals of the group-- and indeed he was, as long as they supported his own ultimate goal. Not an action was undertaken, not a relationship was fostered (or merely tolerated) that didn't support what Fuhito considered to be his first duty. It wasn't that he hated humanity, he simply hated what they had done, were doing, to the Planet. Given that all human life returned to the Planet as a matter of course, why shouldn't it do so all at once? All those borrowed lives, sapping Her life. No, half measures would not do.

The Shinra, he terrorized, destabilized, and stole from-- weapons, for the most part, which was how he regarded SOLDIER. Elegantly designed human weapons. In creating his Ravens (genetically engineered supersoldiers possessing heightened healing, power and stamina at the cost of their humanity-- for all intents and purposes, biological drones), Fuhito had tampered with the work of the one person for whom he felt respect, Professor Hojo. Though the Professor was a Shinra scientist, Fuhito saw him as a great man, a visionary of pure science, like himself. It had been an honor, in a way, to alter his work, to turn it to a higher purpose. In the end he had felt compelled to kidnap the man, to have his attention as much as to gain information from him. The attack he orchestrated on Shinra headquarters was as much a display of his accomplishments for the benefit of the Professor, as it was an outright offensive.

In life, Fuhito had no friends. People were either useful to him, or they were not. Though he had no genuine feeling for those around him, he cultivated a calm, quiet manner that seemed to read to both enemies and friends alike as courteous and measured. Within, of course, he was empty of nearly every human feeling save for obsession-- in his way he was as much a monster as the Ravens he created. Though he was seemingly invested in events and people around him, there was not ever a time when Fuhito's goal was not foremost in his mind. His lack of warmth, his emotional distance, made it all too easy for him to manipulate the hotter heads and hearts of those he interacted with. It had never been about cruelty, about hurting them at all, they simply stood in the way. In the end, having mercilessly sacrificed many lives (both ally and enemy) to his cause, Fuhito gave his own life to his obsession. Finally put down by the Turks, he died having futilely surrendered the last of his humanity and of his sanity to the Zirconiade Materia, his body terribly changed, the Planet unsaved. Though he was at last united with the Planet, one with the Lifestream, he had failed.

A lone idealogue, a broken genius, an obsessed man, a soft-spoken enigma, Fuhito is the unseen mover behind the events before Crisis. As much a product of his environment and his time as any "evil genius", he prefigures the apocalyptic events he precedes.

Abilities: Fuhito is a genius, and has a handy way with a firearm-- but his physical abilities, as his transformation was ultimately a failure, are those of a normal human being.
